Detroit Red Wings Captain Henrik Zetterberg Forced To Retire

Health reasons are behind the athlete's retirement, which was just announced.

DETROIT, MI — Detroit Red Wings Henrik Zetterberg is retiring, according to reports, after more than 1,000 games and nearly as many points.

The Detroit Free Press reported that a degenerative back issue has forced the team captain to step down for good.

“It is emotional,” Zetterberg said in the report. “It’s been 15 years here and even though I knew that I was on my last couple years, I wish that I could play a little bit longer.”
