Detroit Street Art To Be Unveiled On Juneteenth
A mural will be unveiled during the Juneteenth Freedom Rally at Spirit Plaza at 10 a.m. Friday.
DETROIT, MI — Famed Michigan artist Hubert Massey will be in Detroit Friday, leading 20 Detroit teens in an street art project on Woodward Avenue on Juneteenth.
Massey was chosen by the students, all of whom are from Detroit Heals Detroit and the Detroit Public Schools Community District, based on his experience, work in the community, work with youth and the sketch of his vision included in his application, the city said in a news release.
Massey's art can be found across the city, in such places as Mexicantown, Greektown, the Cultural Center, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, the Detroit Athletic Club and the TCF Center.

Mayor Mike Duggan revealed the inspirational message, “POWER TO THE PEOPLE”, being painted along a block-long span of Woodward Avenue leading to Spirit Plaza during his June 17 news briefing.
The mural will be unveiled during the Juneteenth Freedom Rally at Spirit Plaza at 10 a.m. Friday, capping off a week-long celebration of solidarity and reflection across the city.
