Detroit's 4th Of July Fireworks 2020 Moved To August

DETROIT, MI – July 4 events across the country will not look the same this year thanks to the coronavirus. Many cities and towns have been forced to cancel the annual Fourth of July events, including Detroit. Although Detroit's fireworks have been canceled, they have been replaced with a virtual firework show in August.

Detroit's annual fireworks show will take place on Aug. 31 this year on a special broadcast on WDIC Local 4. The fireworks show will honor front-line workers and other heroes of the coronavirus crisis, Mayor Mike Duggan said previously.

The city typically holds its Ford Fireworks in late June. This year the event was scheduled for Monday. But due to the coronavirus, the virtual show was put in place to help prevent spread of the virus.
