Downtown Detroit Bar Closes After Fire

Business owners said the bar will reopen, though it was unclear when that will happen.

DETROIT — A popular downtown Detroit bar is closed after an overnight fire damaged part of the building.

Business owners with Checker Bar, located on Cadillac Square, said the fire started in the electrical room in the basement. They believe an explosion outside the building sparked the fire.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and prevent further damage to the building, according to business owners.
