MICHIGAN — Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick could be released early from his 28-year federal prison sentence due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, according to reports.
WWJ reported Friday that Kilpatrick, 49, will be released after serving just seven years of his 28-year sentence.
Kilpatrick was convicted in 2013 on two dozen counts of public corruption charges related to racketeering, bribery and extortion, stemming from a criminal racketeering investigation.

Several attempts by Kilpatrick seeking early release have been denied, as recent as late 2019, according to the Detroit News.
