DETROIT — A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a Detroit officer dead, police announced Monday.

Officer Cameron Richardson, 32, was driving a Jeep north on Hoover Street near Greiner on the city's eastside at 12:09 a.m. Sunday morning when he was struck by a white van that was trying to turn left at the intersection, according to police.

The Jeep rolled over and Richardson was killed in the crash, according to police.
The white van sped away from the intersection, but was quickly found a short distance away, according to police.

Two people who inside the van were arrested in connection with the crash, but the driver ran away from the scene, according to police.
Officers also found a gun inside the van, according to police.
Police described Richardson, who was also a military veteran, as a family man with two daughters.
The family and the police department have set up a GoFundMe page to help support Richardson's daughters.
