Man Faces Felony After Filming Spitting On Pizza At Comerica Park

Authorities said 20-year-old Jaylon Kerley faces a felony and misdemeanor charge after the video that went viral over the weekend.

DETROIT, MI — The food handler accused of spitting on a pizza while working at Comerica Park now faces a felony charge. A video went viral over the weekend on Instagram showing a young man spitting on a pizza being made for a customer.

The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday morning ath 20-year-old Jaylon Kerley now faces a 4-year felony for food law violations and a 90-day misdemeanor for the same act. He was also fired from Comerica Park, which closed the stand down immediately upon learning of the video.

The video was ofifically removed from Instagram by Tuesday morning.

Kerley is expected to be arraigned on the charges Tuesday.

WWJ-AM reported that officials at the home of the Detroit Tigers determined the video was recorded Friday, when the team hosted the Kansas City Royals.

Detroit Sportservice, which provides food service at the ballpark, says in a statement that it closed down the stand.

“As soon as we became aware through social media of potential food tampering Friday night, we immediately closed that food stand and disposed of all the product. Food safety is our top priority and we will take any appropriate action necessary to protect our guests,” Detroit Sportservice said.
