Michigan Coronavirus Cases Up To 60,189; Deaths Near 5,800

The numbers are a slight uptick from what the state reported Monday​, when it reported two new deaths, the lowest it had seen since March.

MICHIGAN — The state has reported 60,189 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of Tuesday, while the death toll in Michigan nears 5,800.

Michigan reported Tuesday that 125 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in the state. State health officials also reported another 18 deaths attributed to the virus, bringing the statewide death toll to 5,790.

The numbers are a slight uptick from what the state reported Monday, when it reported two new deaths, the lowest it had seen since March.

The state reported that in addition to the confirmed cases and deaths, the numbers may be much higher. Michigan has reported over 6,000 probable cases of the coronavirus cases as well as over 200 deaths probably related to the coronavirus.

Factoring those numbers into the confirmed stats brings statewide totals to 66,269 and 6,034, respectively.

Michigan now ranks ninth among states in total coronavirus cases, according to data provided by the World Health Organization, which factors in the probable cases. The state has ranked as high as third. It ranks fifth in the nation for coronavirus deaths; it has ranked as high as third in that category as well.

The U.S. meanwhile leads the world in both cases of the coronavirus and deaths, according to World Health Organization numbers. As of Tuesday, nearly 2.2 million cases of the virus have been reported in the U.S. Over 118,000 deaths due to the virus have been reported in the U.S. Nearly 900,000 people in the U.S. have recovered from the virus.

The World Health Organization has reported that over 8.2 cases of the virus have been reported worldwide, with more than 443,000 people dying. Over 4.2 million people have recovered from the virus around the globe.
