Michigan Coronavirus Cases Cross The 64K Mark, Deaths Near 6K
State health department data suggests the number of both cases and deaths could be much higher.
MICHIGAN — Michigan health officials on Wednesday reported 262 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus, bringing the statewide case total to 64,132.
The state also reported four new confirmed deaths Wednesday, bringing Michigan's overall death toll to 5,951.
State health department data suggests the number of both cases and deaths could be much higher. According to data provided by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, there are 6,957 cases in which a person has an illness that is probably the coronavirus, but that has not been confirmed.

Additionally, there have been 247 deaths that the state has said are probably related to the coronavirus, but have not been confirmed.

As of Saturday, the state has reported that over 51,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus.
Wednesday's update comes after the state on Tuesday released itsplan for returning to in-class instruction in the fall, which directly relates to the number of coronavirus cases.
Wednesday marked the ninth straight day in which the state reported more than 200 cases of the coronavirus during its daily update of new cases. On Tuesday, the state reported 373 cases, the second highest number it had reported in all of June.
