Michigan Coronavirus Cases Top 70,000
Michigan reported 584 new cases of the virus on Tuesday, bringing the statewide case total to 70,306.
MICHIGAN — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Michigan crossed the 70,000 mark on Tuesday, according to the most recent data provided by state health officials.
Michigan reported 584 new cases of the virus on Tuesday, bringing the statewide case total to 70,306. The state also reported that six more people have died from the virus, upping Michigan's coronavirus death toll to 6,081.
Tuesday's numbers are higher than the uptick seen Monday, when 384 new cases of the coronavirus were reported.

The number of new coronavirus cases reported daily has been on the rise in recent weeks, but is still much lower than what the state has seen over the course of the pandemic.

Michigan reported nearly 2,000 new cases on April 3 — its highest single-day increase since the pandemic began in March. Nearly 1,200 new cases were reported on May 14, the highest total of the month.
Michigan ranks 13th in the U.S. in coronavirus cases, according to data provided by the World Health Organization. The state ranks seventh in coronavirus deaths. It has recently ranked as low as eighth in deaths, and have previously ranked as high as third in the nation in both categories.

In the U.S., 3.5 million cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed, according to the World Health Organization. More than 138,000 people in the nation have died from the virus. Over 1.5 million have recovered from the virus.
Over 13 million people have been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus, according to the World Health Organization. Of those, nearly 578,000 have died and more than 7.7 million have recovered from the virus.
