Michigan Reports 504 New Coronavirus Cases, 68 More Deaths
The updates bring the state's total coronavirus numbers to 55,608 cases and 5,334 deaths.
MICHIGAN — More than 500 new cases of the coronavirus and over 60 new deaths were reported in Michigan Wednesday, according to the most recent data provided by state health officials.
The state reported 504 new coronavirus cases and 68 new deaths. The updates bring the state's total coronavirus numbers to 55,608 cases and 5,334 deaths.
State numbers are released daily at 3 p.m. but are indicative of what has been reported by 10 a.m. that day.

Numbers are sometimes altered as public health officials investigate individual cases. Case numbers sometimes do not match numbers provided by respective counties due to several variables, including testing done by private organizations that report to either the state or the county but not both.

Deaths are reported by health care providers and recorded by local health departments. Other data, such as the number of individuals who have recovered at the state level, are released on Saturdays.
Expanded Coronavirus Testing in Michigan
As the state continues through its continuous battle with the coronavirus, it has pulled additional measures to prevent the spread.
After Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Tuesday the state was expanding testing for the coronavirus, local municipalities announced additional test expansions Wednesday.
In Oakland County, organizations partners to provide free testing to residents at a local apartment complex June 2. Oakland County, McLaren Oakland and the housing commission will be offering a host of services to Carriage Circle residents at the Pontiac apartment complex near Auburn Avenue and South Opdyke.
Services include free testing for the coronavirus, health screenings, food security assessments and evaluations to determine if there are other needs. County staff will be onsite help residents fill out the U.S. Census 2020 questionnaire as well.

An unorthodox form of testing will begin next month in Macomb County, where testing for coronavirus hot spots will begin in the county's sewer systems.
Macomb County has launched a pilot project to determine the effectiveness of sampling and studying sewage in an effort to trace coronavirus hot spots, officials announced Wednesday.
The county is working with Oakland University and Michigan State University and will provide data to the county health department for review. The project's ultimate goal is to provide an online public dashboard and to allow local residents to see the data for themselves, officials said in a news release.

Coronavirus Cases in Southeast Michigan
Southeast Michigan continues to be the state's hardest hit region. Wayne County leads Michigan counties in coronavirus cases, with Oakland County trailing close behind. Detroit, meanwhile, leads all Michigan communities in both total cases and deaths.
