Monroe Police Officer In Stable Condition After Being Shot
Two people are in custody for the shooting, police said.
DETROIT, MI — A police officer from the Monroe Police Department is in stable condition after being shot Sunday night during a traffic stop, police said Monday.
The officer was shot around 8:20 p.m. Sunday while checking on a vehicle that had been reported during an armed robbery from earlier in the day, according to police. The vehicle had been parked in the area of North Dixie Highway in Monroe when the officer pulled alongside the vehicle to see if it was the same one that had been stolen. When the officer did this, two people got out of the vehicle and shot the officer.
The suspects ran away before being arrested.

The officer is listed as in stable condition at a hospital in Ohio. Michigan State Police is leading the investigation.
Sunday's shooting was the second officer involved shooting in Monroe in six months, the Detroit Free Press reported.
