Restaurant Owner Fatally Shoots Robber, Wounds Patron In Michigan

Police said the owner emptied a magazine inside his restaurant to defend himself, killing the would-be robber and striking a patron.

HIGHLAND PARK, MI — A man reportedly attempting to rob a restaurant in Highland Park was shot and killed by the owner inside the establishment early Thursday morning, according to reports. A restaurant customer reportedly also was injured in the shooting.

Police said a man entered the Woodward Bistro restaurant on Woodward Avenue near the Davison with the intentions of robbing the place. Reports said he even got money from a worker once inside the restaurant and then reportedly tried to rob a customer.

That's when the owner of the business, who is a concealed pistol holder, opened fire, killing the suspect with a .40-caliber Glock pistol, according to WDIV. Police said he emptied the magazine in the restaurant.

A woman dining at the restaurant was grazed by a stray bullet, but has already been treated and released, according to police.

Highland Park police are treating this as an act of self-defense, WDIV reported. The restaurant owner was questioned and then released.
