Salons And Barbers Can Open June 15. Here's What Else Will Open.

Barbershops and salons across Michigan can reopen beginning June 15. Here is what else will be opening.

MICHIGAN — Michigan residents can rejoice. Beginning June 15, barbershops and salons across the entire state can reopen.

The announcement was made Friday by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who also announced that personal care facilities in northern Michigan — including the Upper Peninsula and the greater Traverse City area — will open a little earlier, June 10.

The opening of personal care facilities is just another step toward opening the entire state, which reported 284 new coronavirus cases and 20 deaths Friday. The updates brought Michigan's totals to 58,525 total cases and 5,615 total deaths.

What Is Open?

According to the executive order signed by Whitmer Friday, the following businesses will be able to reopen June 15: arcades, bowling alleys, cinemas, climbing facilities, convention centers, performance spaces, meeting halls, night clubs, sports arenas, theaters. This is the case for both indoor and outdoor facilities.

The openings come with some limitations, however. The executive order stipulates that people stay at least 6-feet apart from one another. These types of businesses must limit capacity to whichever is smaller: 25 percent, or 250 people.

Concert spaces, race tracks, sport arenas, stadiums and similar venues can also reopen, but only to either 25 percent capacity or 500 people.

While outdoor public pools were allowed to open beginning Monday, indoor pools have now also been given the all clear, at 25 percent capacity.
