Suspect Accused In Shooting At Detroit Coney Island Arraigned

The man prosecutors have accused in the triple homicide at a Detroit Coney Island Sunday was arraigned Wednesday morning.

DETROIT, MI — The man prosecutors have accused in the triple homicide at a Detroit Coney Island Sunday was arraigned Wednesday morning.

Mickey Dane Douglas, 25, of Detroit, was arraigned Wednesday morning by 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek on three counts of first degree murder, one count of assault with intent to murder, one count of felon in possession of a firearm and five counts of felony firearm, prosecutors said.

“The fact that this terrible tragedy happened is yet another reason that we must continue to work towards silencing the violence in Detroit, continue to work with our youth and young adults, and fight even harder to protect the programs designed to help them are not snuffed out even in these difficult economic times," Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "No dispute, fight, or feud is worth three dead bodies and another fighting for their life. We must uplift the families of these victims and make sure that they receive the justice that they deserve.”

Worthy accused Douglas of shooting and killing 34-year-old Brian Jackson, 24-year-old Carnell Watts and 20-year-old Courtney Willis, all of Detroit. Douglas is also accused in the non-fatal shooting of a 28-year-old Detroit man, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said police were dispatched to a Coney Island in the 9100 block of Dexter Avenue around 11 p.m. Sunday following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived to the scene, they found a man's body in the parking lot, prosecutors said. Inside the restaurant, officers said they found two more bodies and a surviving victim who had multiple gunshot wounds, according to prosecutors.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, prosecutors said, while the surviving victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Douglas is scheduled to appear in court again at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 5 for a probable cause conference. Preliminary Examination is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 12. Both hearings are scheduled to be before 36th District Court Judge Ronald Giles.
