After three decades behind bars, the notorious "White Boy Rick" will be released from a Florida halfway house later this month.
DETROIT, MI — Richard Wershe Jr., otherwise known as "White Boy Rick," will be returning to Michigan July 20 after serving more than three decades as a prisoner.
Wershe will be released from a Florida halfway house and return to Michigan two days after turning 51 years old, The Detroit News reported.
Wershe grew up on Detroit's east side and was an FBI informant at just 14-years-old. He helped officials bust a cocaine trafficking ring, but was sentenced to life in prison without parole by age 19 after being caught with 16 pounds of cocaine.

He was in a Michigan prison for nearly 30 years before being granted parole, however he was then shipped to Florida to serve a prison term on racketeering charges.
The Detroit Free Press previously reported that Wershe, the subject of a 2018 film starring Matthew McConaughey and a documentary in 2017, is a father of three and a grandfather. His parole became possible after changes in drug law, the Free Press reported.
