1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 52 degrees. Friday will be mostly clear, with a low around 35 degrees. Saturday there is a chance of showers, with a high near 63 degrees.

2. Dexter versus Chelsea varsity football game

The Dexter Dreadnaughts will take on the Chelsea Bulldogs today at 7 p.m. at Chelsea High School. Come support your home team by lighting up the stands with maroon and gold.

3. Knights of Columbus Chicken Broil (WEEKEND)

The Dexter Knights of Columbus will serve chicken dinners on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13-14, from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. or until sold out. The cost is $9, and includes a half chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, roll, butter and beverage. The event will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

5. This day in history

Oct. 12, 1492: After sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, Italian explorer Christopher Columbus sighted a Bahamian island, believing he reached East Asia. His expedition went ashore the same day and claimed the land for Isabella and Ferdinand of Spain, who sponsored his attempt to find a western ocean route to China.
