Dexter Dancers Score High Marks at Rainbow National Dance Competition

Michigan Academy of Dance & Music students traveled to Detroit on March 8-10 to compete in PULSE intensive dance training workshops.

The weekend of March 8-10 was a rewarding weekend for youth, teen and adult dancers from Michigan Academy of Dance & Music (MiADM), as they attended both The PULSE On Tour and the Rainbow National Dance Competition.

Based in New York, PULSE is a weekend of intense training with some of the world's leading choreographers, such as Desmond Richardson (Complexions, Ailey), Brooke Lipton (Glee), Dave Scott (You Got Served, Step Up 2, Stomp the Yard), and Brian Friedman (Brittney Spears, Rhianna).

MiADM was recognized as the studio with the best spirit and attitude throughout the weekend, at the first PULSE in Detroit. The studio was awarded the Studio Spirit Award, and Aidan Holland from Dexter was a double-scholarship recipient.

Holland attends Creekside Intermediate School, and first began dancing in September, but his potential and enthusiasm were recognized in both scholarship awards.

Carlie Davis competed her solo "Good Time" and received a platinum award and 1st place in the solo ages 10 and under category. The entire Ruby/Junior Company received a scholarship to take class at Broadway Dance Center in New York this summer. The Ruby Company ranges in age from 9 to 12 and is comprised of dancers from Dexter, Saline, and Ann Arbor.

MiADM will close out their season with a dance concert on June 15 at Dexter High School.
