What: Academy Award Winner Cuba Gooding Jr. and Academy Award Nominee Terrence Howard lead a powerful ensemble cast in this high-flying epic inspired by the real-life adventures of the first African-American combat unit to serve in World War II. In 1944 Italy, A squadron of black pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen is finally given the chance to prove themselves in combat. Even as they battle discrimination on the ground, these men prove themselves in training and in combat.

Join us for this special showing of “Red Tails”, on August 21st, and come meet Tuskegee Airman Veteran, Alexander Jefferson, on Saturday, August 24th, 10:00 a.m., at Larry Martin’s WWII In Their Own Words!

Larry Martin’s WWII In Their Own Words: Tuskegee Airman, Alexander Jefferson

When: Saturday, August 24, 2013, 10:00AM
What: Join us for this taped interview documenting the story of Tuskegee Airman Alexander Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson is a veteran Tuskegee Airman who flew possibly the greatest fighter plane of WW II, the P-51. He flew with the 15th Air Force out of Foggia Italy.  He flew 18 combat missions before being shot down while on a strafing mission on August 12th 1944 over Toulon France.  Mr. Jefferson was taken as a POW of Germany and sent to Stalag Luft 3 in Sagan Poland.  This is the prison camp that was featured in the movie "The Great Escape" with Steve McQueen and James Garner. Mr. Jefferson also went to view the horrible Concentration Camp at Dachau, Germany upon its liberation. He describes what he saw. 

Alexander Jefferson is scheduled to appear at the library for a Q & A session after the viewing of his taped interview.
