St. Mary School Celebrates National Catholic Schools Week

Public is invited to an Open House Feb. 5 at 6pm

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2019 is January 27 - February 2. The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2019 is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.”

NCEA President/CEO Thomas W. Burnford, D.Min., said, “Catholic Schools Week is about showcasing the excellence of Catholic education and it is a great opportunity to invite all families to consider a Catholic school. I encourage every parent to check out their local Catholic school this week.”

St. Mary School will host an open house for the public at the school at 6pm on Tuesday, February 5.

Veronica Kinsey, St. Mary School Principal added, “Over the years I have seen children benefit in countless ways from value-centered Catholic education, strong in its commitment to both moral teaching and academic excellence. Celebrating Catholic Schools Week is a terrific way to publicly recognize the benefits Catholic education brings.”

In addition to excellent academics and faith formation, Catholic schools teach the importance of being engaged citizens within their communities. Academically, Catholic schools consistently earn national test scores up to 20 percent higher than other private, religious and public schools. Catholic schools graduate 99 percent of high school seniors and 86 percent of those graduates go on to college.
