5 Service Projects, One Farmington Hills Church
Antioch Lutheran Church will serve senior lunches, help a shelter and more this weekend.

Members ofΒ AntiochΒ LutheranΒ Church in Farmington Hills will join 4 million members of theΒ EvangelicalΒ LutheranΒ ChurchΒ in America (ELCA) in a special day of service Sept. 8,Β commemorating the ELCAβs 25thΒ anniversary.
Under the bannerΒ βGodβs work. Our handsβ the church will highlight these five service projects:Β
- Serving seniors at St. PatrickβsΒ SeniorΒ Center.Β AntiochΒ members will be serving lunch at the DetroitΒ center onΒ Sept. 7. St. Patrickβs offers a range of services to seniors, and provides meals to some 200 individuals on a daily basis.
- Building a partition atΒ South OaklandΒ Shelter.Β AntiochΒ members will be working at this Lathrup Village-based homeless shelter to build a partition in their welcome/vestibule area, toΒ separate donation storage from the area where clients and volunteers are welcomed.Β AntiochΒ volunteers will also help sort donations and provide clients withΒ resume writing and interview skills assistance.
- Bringing Comfort.Β AntiochΒ members are collecting donated teddy bears, which they will distribute to community members who are in poor health or otherwise are in need of a βbear hugβ as a reminder of Godβs love.
- Providing warmth.Β Participants inΒ Antiochβs Quilting Ministry will be teaching other members how to put together quilts and receiving blankets. These items are then distributed throughΒ LutheranΒ Social Services or donated to the NavajoΒ LutheranΒ Mission inΒ Arizona.
- Preparing pre-schoolers for Head Start.Β Antioch joinsΒ BethlehemΒ Lutheran, HopeΒ LutheranΒ andΒ St. JohnΒ LutheranΒ to give each of the 111 Farmington Head Start students a backpack filled with a complete set of school supplies.
