Based on information provided by the district, here'sΒ what students and motorists should keep in mind to ensure a safe school year:Β
- Students should be at designatedΒ busΒ stops 10 minutes before the scheduled arrival of theΒ bus. If students are waiting at the stop, they won't risk falling or being hit by a car if they have to run across the street.
- AΒ student who arrives at theΒ busΒ stop after theΒ busΒ door has closed cannot be allowed to board theΒ bus. State lawΒ requires theΒ driver to activate warning lights at least 200 feet before theΒ busΒ stop. That's noΒ possible once the doors are closed.
- Students who miss the bus can't pick it up atΒ anotherΒ busΒ stop. It's dangerous for a student to run toward the bus when the driver is not expecting another student.
- Parents are welcome at the bus stop, to help ensure student safety.
- State law requires motorists to stopΒ when the bus stop arm is extended and red lights are flashing.Β
