Like so many girls her age, Dorothy Gale of Kansas dreams of what lies over the rainbow in the classic story. One day, a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world, where she discovers the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion and Toto as they travel the universe of Dorothy’s imagination.

Directed by Melinda Sheatzley, this production is an adaptation for live stage performance of the beloved 1939 Judy Garland film. Memorable songs include “Over the Rainbow,” “Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead),” “We’re Off To See the Wizard (Follow the Yellow Brick Road)” and “The Merry Old Land of Oz.”
“The Wizard of Oz” is a captivating mixture of exhilarating story, memorable songs, upbeat dance numbers, and impressive stagecraft, and the actors of the Farmington Hills Youth Theatre aim to showcase as much of the aura of the film as possible on the live stage.
The Farmington Hills Youth Theatre is a program of the City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department’s Cultural Arts Division. The production of “The Wizard of Oz” is supported in part by an award from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
