Deadline Nears for Farmington High School Art Competition

Hundreds of dollars in prizes will be awarded in juried art competition.

FARMINGTON, MI – The deadline is March 23 for high school students in Farmington and Farmington Hills to enter works of arts in the 31st Annual Farmington Area Arts Commission Competition.

The contest is open to all students in the two communities who attend public, private, parochial or home schools. Fifteen cash prizes, ranging from $25 to $100, will be awarded in three categories: two-dimensional art, three-dimensional art and photography.

Winners will be honored at a special reception and ceremony on Friday, April 15, . The reception with hot and cold appetizers and a cash bar for attendees 21 years of age and older begins at 6 p.m., and the awards ceremony begins at 7 p.m. at the Costick Center, 28600 W. 11 Mile Road.

Winning pieces will be displayed during the Festival of the Arts held at the Costick Center April 14-16. From there, the winning pieces move to the City Gallery, where they will displayed through May 13

To enter, students and/or their art teacher must deliver no more than three pieces of work to the Costick Center, between 5 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23. Late entries will not be accepted. Students must pick up their pieces after the jurying closes at 8:30 p.m.

Art pieces must be original in concept and production, the work of an individual artist, and accompanied by a label with the student artist’s name, address, phone number, email, school, and art teacher’s name. All information must be completely legible and filled out before arrival.

Winning pieces will be held until all exhibits are completed.

A new feature of this year’s competition is that participating students may nominate their art teacher for special recognition at the awards ceremony.

The distinguished juror for this year’s Art Awards is Ted Hadfield, a graduate of the Cranbrook Academy of Arts, and owner and CEO of Artpack Services, Inc., a Farmington Hills company that preserves, stores, and transports artwork for major museums and collectors across the United States.
