Kitchen Fire Damages John Cowley & Sons Pub in Farmington

Fire traveled up a vent and to the roof, Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Schulz said. No one was injured.

Fire crews have contained a first floorΒ kitchen fire that climbed up a vent and damaged the roof of John Cowley & Sons restaurant in downtown Farmington.Β

Farmington Public Safety was called to the scene at 5:15 p.m.,Β after wait staff smelled smoke on the second floor.Β

Police blocked northbound traffic on Farmington Road at Grand River, as well as vehicles headed east on Grand River at Farmington Road. A large semi truck pulled across Grand River to keep westboundΒ traffic away from the area.

Farmington Public Safety Director Bob Schulz said the first crew thatΒ arrived quickly knocked down the fire, but had to remove a portion of the roof to get to the vent. The vent was so hot, he said, that it took some time to cool it down with water.Β

Schulz said he anticipated traffic would continue to be re-routed into the early evening. There was no serious structural damage to the building, he said.Β

Farmington Public Safety requested mutual aid to help contain the area, and twoΒ Farmington Hills Fire crews and vehicles responded.Β
