Licensed Ham Radio Operators Sought in Farmington Hills & Farmington
Emergency Preparedness Commission seeks operators to increase the Cities' effectiveness in getting important messages out to the public.
From City of Farmington Hills: The Cities of Farmington Hills and Farmington, in cooperation with the Emergency Preparedness Commission, are looking for a few “hams.” In the event of a City-wide emergency, licensed operators of amateur radios (also known as hams) can provide vital assistance if existing communications systems become overwhelmed. Ham radio operators would help to increase the Cities’ effectiveness in getting important messages out to the public during a disaster. Ham radio operators would perform the following tasks:
Coordinate communications between the Emergency Operations Center and teams in the field.
Help staff Volunteer Reception Centers.

Assist with damage assessment.
Facilitate tactical response.

Educate, inform, and change behavior and attitudes.
Seek the public’s cooperation.
Help to instill public confidence.
Prior to becoming part of the emergency response team and participating in field activities, licensed ham radio operators would need to become Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members. To learn more about becoming a CERT member, please contact Tim Tutak at tim.tutak@live.com.
