Emery's Creative Jewelry Celebrates 30 Years in Farmington Hills

Emery Weinberger's family, including a third generation, continues operating the jewelry store he opened in 1984.

Rob Weinberger of Emery's Creative Jewelry started going to work with his father when he was nine years old.

The Weinberger family is celebrating 30 years at the store's Hunter's Square location in Farmington Hills. Rob's father Emery learned the jewelry business after coming to America in 1947, working for Harry Greenberg Jewelers.

Emery opened his first store, Sims Antiques, on Hamilton in Highland Park and was so well liked that during the 1967 riots in Detroit, neighbors made sure the store didn't get looted. He later opened a manufacturing business in the Metropolitan Building in Detroit, then got back into the jewelry business with two shops in Southfield before moving to Farmington Hills in 1984.

Emery’s daughter, Terri Herman, earned a fine arts degree in Arizona and came home to work in the store with her brother. Emery passed away in 1993, but his wife, Natalie, still is very much involved in the business.

A third generation, Rob’s daughter Ali, recently graduated from Michigan State and is employed full-time at the store. Rob's wife, Debe Weinberger, and Terri's husband, Howard Herman, also work at the store.

These days, mothers who had their ears were pierced at Emery's Creative Jewelry are bringing their children to Rob, continuing a family tradition.
