Farmington Hills Officers Take Part in Torch Run for Special Olympics

Agencies, including the Farmington Hills Police Department, participated Friday in the fundraiser for Special Olympics International.

Members of the Farmington Hills Police DepartmentΒ joined agencies from throughout Oakland County onΒ Friday to participateΒ inΒ The Law Enforcement Torch Run fundraiser forΒ Special Olympics International.

The relay, which included eastern and western legs that came together in Southfield, raised money andΒ awareness forΒ athletes who participate inΒ Special Olympics Michigan.

"Michigan's Torch Run program had a record breaking year in 2012, raising over $1,000,000," according toΒ its website.

During the western leg of the run, Farmington Hills officers ran eastΒ on 14 Mile Road from Haggerty to Orchard Lake Road, for the hand off with West Bloomfield Township Police Department.

The eastern and western relay legs were slated to comeΒ together in Southfield and wrap up with a pizza partyΒ at the city's Civic Center.
