Farmington Hills Seeks New Commission Members

If you want to get involved in local government, Farmington Hills has vacancies on a few municipal councils.

The City of Farmington Hills is looking for new members for nine area commissions and boards. Touted by the city in a statement as “an opportunity to get involved in your community and make a difference,” commissioners and board members often have a say in how the city manages different parts of community life, from the public library to parks and recreation. People interested in serving on a board or commission must submit a resume and a letter of interest with the name of the specific board or commission they’d like to be considered for.

Descriptions of each board or commission appeal on the City of Farmington Hills’ website. Residency requirements for different bodies may vary, so applicants should be sure to review the information online to make sure they’re eligible to serve.

The following Boards and Commissions currently have openings:

  • Committee to Increase Voter Participation
  • Community Health Commission (currently being formed, information is

  • Farmington Area Arts Commission
  • Farmington Community Library Board of Trustees
  • Historic District Commission
  • Housing Rehabilitation Loan Board
  • Parks and Recreation Commission
  • Planning Commission (architectural/construction background preferred)

Application materials should be submitted to CMO@fhgov.com. All submissions will be reviewed by Farmington Hills Mayor Kenneth Massey, who will nominate select applicants to openings on the boards and commissions with City Council approval. People who can’t fit a board or commission seat into their existing schedules are also encouraged to submit a letter of interest so they can be added to the city’s list for future consideration.
