Farmington Hills Teens Needed For FEMA Council
The Federal Emergency Management Administration needs kids in 8-11th grades for its Youth Preparedness Council.

The Farmington Hills/Farmington Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) is putting out the call to local youth to apply for the FEMA Youth Preparedness Council. Open to kids in grades 8-11 nationwide, the program is aimed at allowing youth to “make a difference and transform the preparedness and resilience and of their communities and beyond,” according to the City.
The program is open to youth active in community service or who have a special interest in emergency preparedness. Established in 2012, the FEMA Youth Preparedness Council’s members participate in a number of national emergency preparedness projects. Each youth serves a two-year term, during which time they “represent the youth perspective on emergency preparedness and share information with their communities,” city officials said in a release. The council also meets with FEMA officials regularly, to give their input on strategies and projects.
Anyone who works with youth or in emergency management is welcome to share the application with teens who’d be a good fit for the program. For consideration, teens must complete the program application, provide two letters of recommendation and submit academic records. Applications are due March 18.
