Friday Events Benefit Area Residents with Disabilities

Fun First Fridays, held every month at Sam's Club in Novi, provide shopping and entertainment. Several of the entrepreneurs are from Farmington Hills.

On the first Friday of every month, you can find a group of people gathered in Sam's Club of Novi who are looking to support the entrepreneurial spirit of people with disabilities in Michigan.

The "Fun First Friday" events feature local businesses and entrepreneurs, including some from Farmington Hills, who sell goods or pass out information from their booths. Many of the individuals have disabilities or represent an organization that supports people with disabilities.

"The idea is to have a regular event every month for people with disabilities to have a chance to show their items," organizer Michael Spector said.

One of the entrepreneurs is Teddy, who silk screens T-shirts to sell, as well as buttons. "Dorothy to the Rescue" sells homemade first-aid kits.

Other items for sale include baby blankets, jewelry, purses, candles, flower arrangements and children's books. Companies like Arbonne and Mary Kay have had booths offering promotions, as well.

Fun First Fridays began in April. The events were held in a few locations before settling on Sam's Club at the corner of Wixom Road and Grand River Avenue in Novi.

The public is welcome to attend and shop at the booths, which are located at the front of the store.

The next scheduled events are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 and Friday, Dec. 7.
