Harrison Students 'Think Pink' This Week for Breast Cancer Awareness

Harrison High School's Think Pink Club will host its second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Week Oct. 14-18, to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Last year's inaugural event raised more than $2,000, and over the past five years, the club has raised more than $5,000. In July, members presented a $4,000 check to the Karmanos Cancer Center; previous donations have gone to the American Cancer Society. 

Each day this week, club members will sell t-shirts, pink bracelets and pink ribbons, each with a breast cancer fact to educate staff and students. Other activities include: 

• Monday - Pink Donut Sale before school
• Tuesday - Hat Day (students pay $1 to wear a hat) and Check It Out Program, 7 p.m. in the Media Center, to share with 11th and 12th grade girls and their mothers the importance of early detection through regular self-examination. Wednesday - Bake sale before school
• Thursday - Loose change day at lunch 
• Friday - PINK OUT! at school and the varsity football game against cross-town rival Farmington High School at 7 p.m.
