Holiday Spirit 2016: Giving Tree Seeking Winter Wear Donations in Farmington Hills

Drop off winter items to Ice Arena or Costick Center before Dec. 21.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — Maria Castrodale, site supervisor for the after-school program at the Farmington Hills ice arena, has a special memory from her childhood. When she was in elementary school, students were invited to bring winter clothing items to place on a Christmas tree in the school. The items were given to those in need during the winter months.

"It worked really well when I was elementary school," Castrodale told The Farmington Observer. " I thought it would fit in well here."

Castrodale has set up "Giving Tree" has in the lobbies of both the ice arena and the Costick Center. A group kids in the after-school program helped set up and decorate the trees, and got the donation process started. They're looking for donations of hats, socks and mittens or gloves to be given to families in need.
