Multiple lanes on a busy stretch of Interstate 696 in Oakland County will be closed for road work over the next few months, officials said.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI ā Multiple lanes on a busy stretch of Interstate 696 in Oakland County will be closed for road work over the next few months, according to road officials.
Beginning Monday, only two lanes will be open on westbound Interstate 696 between Southfield and Lahser roads, according to road officials.
Those lanes will be closed for road work until sometime late July, according to road officials.

Additionally, all westbound Interstate 696 lanes will be fully closed between Interstate 75 and the Lodge Freeway from May 9 through May 19, according to road officials.
That closure is needed so construction crews can demolish the Church Street plaza bridge, according to road officials.

During the closures, westbound traffic will be detoured south on Interstate 75, west on the Davison Highway and then north on the Lodge Freeway back to Interstate 696.
Road work in the eastbound lanes is expected to continue for nearly two years, reopening in fall 2026.
