Metro Detroit Cop Sexually Assaults Police Cadet: Prosecutor
Officials said the officer has been suspended and placed on administrative leave.
FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — An Oakland County cop is facing charges after he sexually assaulted a police cadet multiple times, according to the prosecutor's office.
Michael Rybinski, 31, of Wixom, was charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct (15-year felony) and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct (2-year misdemeanor). He was placed in jail with a $2,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 24.
Prosecutors said the incident happened in Wixom on June 16 when Rybinski called her and told her he was drunk and needed a ride.

Once inside the car with her, prosecutors said Rybinski tried to kiss and grope her, "despite repeated demands that he stop."
When they arrived at his destination, Rybinski then refused to get out of the car and "forcibly fondled the victim again," prosecutors said.

"We entrust law enforcement officers with great power," said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald. "Breach of that trust undermines public safety, and makes us all feel less safe. Under no circumstances is this alleged behavior ever acceptable. I applaud this victim for her courage to come forward."
The cadet reported the incident the next day and Rybinski was immediately put on "administrative duty in a non-enforcement role" while the investigation unfolded. He was then placed on paid administrative leave and his law enforcement authority was suspended once charges were announced, according to city officials.
"The alleged conduct does not reflect the values or standards of the City of Farmington Hills or the Farmington Hills Police Department. As a City, we are committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all members of our community and staff," Farmington Hills City Manager Gary Mekjian and Police Chief John Piggott said in a statement.
