Spring Programs at Farmington Hills Center for Active Adults
Dozens of programs offered for adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center on 11 Mile Road.
From Farmington Hills Center for Active Adults: The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center on 11 Mile Road between Middlebelt and Inkster. The Center is open Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60.
First Friday Ballroom. Friday, March 3, 3 – 6 p.m. Enjoy ballroom dancing, featuring the Mike Wolverton Band. All levels of experience, couples and singles welcome. Buffet dinner included. Fee is $10 by March 2, $12 after.
Diabetes Prevention Program. Saturdays, March 4 – June 17, 10 – 11 a.m. This 16- week program, led by a trained lifestyle coach, will focus on healthy eating, weight loss, increased physical activity, and other behavioral changes. Limited space. Sign up in Conway Hall or call 248-473- 1830.

Diabetes Self-Management. Mondays, March 6 – April 10, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. This six- week session will enhance your confidence in managing your diabetes and workingn with health care providers. Sign up in Conway Hall.
Shredding for Safety. Tuesday, March 7, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Protect your identity, de- clutter your home, and recycle. Bring in up to four paper grocery bags of documents to be securely shredded. Stay in your car, papers will be unloaded for you. No junk mail or trash! For Farmington and Farmington Hills residents ages 50 and better ONLY. No fee.

Sign Language Class. Tuesdays, March 7 – April 11, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. This six-week class will cover the alphabet, some numbers, and signs for food, colors, and weather, plus basic conversations. Sign up by calling 248-473- 1830.
Exercise, Health and Longevity. Thursday, March 9, 10 - 11:30 a.m. Learn from Beaumont Health - Farmington Hills fitness expert Charlene Diehl how exercise can lead to a longer, healthier life, increase strength and balance, improve memory, and increase energy.
St. Patty’s Day Party. Friday, March 10, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Enjoy a traditional lunch of corned beef and cabbage or fish. Try your luck at the raffle and trivia games, win a door prize, and dance a jig to the music of The Dennis James Band! You’ll be entertained by students from the O’Hare School of Irish Dance before lunch. Don’t forget to wear green! Fee is $8 by the March 6 deadline, $10 after. Tickets available in Conway Hall.

Get Growing! Garden Readiness. Thursday, March 16, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Learn how to get your garden ready for the spring growing season with Trevor Johnson, Resident Farmer at Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.
Friday’s Film. Friday, March 17, 12 – 3 p.m. After a delicious lunch, enjoy the movie “Deepwater Horizon.” The afternoon includes popcorn, candy, and a beverage. Fee is $5 in advance, $7 at the door. Tickets available in Conway Hall.
Mindfulness, Memory Tips & Strategies. Thursday, March 23, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Learn about the difference between true memory loss and everyday memory challenges, plus learn how to prevent memory loss and deal with those who have memory loss with Gerryanna Luscri from Beaumont Health - Farmington Hills.
Karaoke. Friday, March 24, 1 – 3 p.m. Head to Conway Hall for karaoke most fourth Fridays for singing fun with classics from the past and today’s hits. Light refreshments. Fee is $2. 2017 Fifty and Better Golf Leagues. Registration for Women’s, Men’s, and Couples’ Leagues continues through mid-April. General meetings will be held at the Costick
Center for Women’s League on Monday, April 17 at 10 a.m.; Couples’ League on Wednesday, April 19 at 11 a.m.; and Men’s League on Friday April 21 at 10 a.m. Play the Farmington Hills Golf Club for all levels of golfers. Register at the Costick Center or call Angela at 248-473-1823 for details.
Dance and fitness classes are available and most of them offer drop-in rates. Several support groups are also available including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Vision Impaired. Many clubs meet regularly including Computer Forum, the Painters Group, Photography Club, and the Red Hat Society. All programs are sponsored by the City of Farmington Hills Special Services Adults 50 & Better Division. Advance registration is required for all programs.
