UPDATE: Storm Knocks Out Power for Thousands in Farmington Hills

A strong storm that carried high winds and lightning strikes blew through Farmington and Farmington HillsΒ Wednesday evening, knocking out power for more than 4,000Β DTE customers in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

The largest swath of color on DTE's outage map is in an area west of Farmington Road and north of Eight Mile, around Founders Sports Park. But smaller outages are scattered throughout both Farmington and Farmington Hills.

As of 10 p.m., DTE had not posted estimated restoration times for any of the outages. More than 70,000 customers are without power in metro Detroit.Β 

The rain hit downtown Farmington shortly after the community's annual 9/11 Patriot Day ceremony ended.

A severe thunderstorm warning for Oakland County expired at 7:30 p.m.
