Stretch Of I-696 In Oakland County Closes Friday

The work is part of a $275 million major road construction project​ to rebuild Interstate 696 from Interstate 275 to Evergreen Road.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A stretch of westbound Interstate 696 in Oakland County will close this weekend, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

All westbound lanes on the freeway from Telegraph Road to Interstate 275 will close 8 p.m. Friday so crews can work to repair pavement and widen the shoulder. The closure will also include all on and off ramps. The freeway was expected to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

All eastbound lanes will remain open during the closure, officials said.

The northbound Orchard Lake Road ramp to westbound Interstate 696 will close Sunday at 4 p.m. and will remain shut down for two weeks, officials said. That traffic will be detoured to westbound 12 Mile Road, then southbound Michigan 5 to westbound Interstate 696/Interstate 96.
