Tribute Concert Held For Aretha Franklin In Farmington Hills

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — The R&B trio Dames Brown will present a Tribute to Aretha Franklin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 25 at the Farmington Players Barn. This evening of music honoring the life and legacy of Aretha Franklin is an encore performance of the sold-out show offered by the City of Farmington Hills Cultural Arts Division this past March.

Only 225 tickets will be sold for this event. All tickets are $25 and available at the Costick Center at 28600 W. Eleven Mile in Farmington Hills, online at https://recreg.fhgov.com or by calling 248-473-1848.

Hits including “Chain of Fools,” “Natural Woman,” “Spanish Harlem,” “Respect,” “Freeway of Love,” and a Gospel medley featuring a full band and back-up singers will all be part of the Tribute to Aretha Franklin led by Musical Director Chris Codish.

“Aretha Franklin is a universal ambassador of what soul music is all about,” said LaRae Starr, a member of Dames Brown. “She’s regal, she’s our queen, and she represents so many great moments in American history.” Aretha Franklin, the musically gifted self-taught piano prodigy, talented vocalist, and creative songwriter known as “The Queen of Soul,” passed away on August 16, 2018.

Nominated as the Best R&B Female Group in 2011 by Detroit Metro Area Musician & Entertainers Association, Dames Brown is made up of Teresa Marbury, LaRae Starr, and Athena Johnson. These three accomplished entertainers perform a range of musical genres including Motown, 1940s Big Band Jazz, and recent chart toppers, with each member singing both lead and background vocals. They have developed customized live performances paying homage to numerous great artists including The Emotions, The Pointer Sisters, Donna Summer, Celine Dion, The Supremes, and now Aretha Franklin.
