Woman Charged In Crash That Killed Oakland County Road Worker

Officials said the workers were outside their work vehicles and working near the median when a silver SUV hit them.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI — A 59-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a crash that killed an Oakland County road worker earlier this summer, officials said.

Officials said 43-year-old Cedric Jones was killed in the crash that happened on Orchard Lake Road near Misty Pines Drive in Farmington Hills at 11:11 a.m. on July 23.

Two others, a 55-year-old man and a 57-year-old man, were also injured in the crash and treated at a hospital, officials said.

Officials said Kimberly Taylor, of Farmington Hills, was charged with one count of moving violation causing death in a work zone (15-year felony) and two counts of moving violation causing injury in a work zone (one-year misdemeanor).

She was placed in jail and released after posting a $5,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for Dec. 3.

Officials said Jones and two others were outside their work vehicles and working near the median when a silver SUV hit them. They said the work crew was legally parked and had the appropriate emergency lights, warning lights and cones, but the vehicle still hit the workers.

"I would like to thank the families of the victims for their patience while we investigated the cause of this crash. The investigators worked diligently on this case, striving to determine how this tragic crash happened," said Farmington Hills Police Chief John Piggott. "It is my hope that today’s arrest and arraignment will provide some comfort to the families, knowing that justice will be determined through the court system."
