Woman Killed, Baby Hurt After Getting Hit By Pickup Truck In Oakland Co.: Police

Investigators believe drugs played a role in the crash and arrested the driver of the pickup truck, police said.

HOLLY TOWNSHIP, MI — A woman was killed and a 1-year-old was injured after a pickup truck struck them outside an Oakland County market Sunday, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot at Alex’s Market and Grill in Holly Township, police said.

Police said the 29-year-old Warren woman was holding a 1-year-old girl while placing another child into a Ford Explorer when she was struck by the Ford pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was pulling out of a parking spot when he struck and ran over the woman and her child, police said.

The woman was killed in the crash, police said.

The 1-year-old girl suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, police said.

Police believe drugs played a role in the crash and arrested the 72-year-old Carleton man who was driving the pickup truck in connection with the crash.

Officials will turn over their findings to the prosecutor's office for potential charges.

"It does appear at this time that impaired driving is the cause of this crash," said F/Lt. Mike Shaw on X. "While many drivers are aware of the impacts of alcohol while driving, we continue to remind drivers the same is true for drug impairment. It does not matter if they are prescribed drugs, marijuana or over the counter, they all impact your ability to drive."
