Red Fox Footwear, a specialty retail shoe store has recently opened its doors for business at 104 S Leroy St. in downtown Fenton.

Many local residents may remember the new storefront as the site of the former Kirkey Shoes & Repair. Red Fox Footwear is the brainchild of local entrepreneurs Jesse Anderson & Nick Brown, who both grew up in Fenton and graduated from the local high school.

"We frequently visited Kirkey Shoes while growing up," Anderson said, “and we wished to continue the tradition of operating a local specialty shoe store in Downtown Fenton."

Anderson  and Brown have more than a decade of combined experience in the specialty shoe business, with a particular focus on custom fittings via gait analysis and analyzing physiological markers.

In a conscious effort to continue the long standing and respected tradition of Kirkey Shoe’s, they said Red Fox Footwear will feature exceptional brands including the legendary Red Wing Shoes & Irish Setter work shoe and hunting lines. As competitive runners, Anderson and Brown  also hope to incorporate their own fitness background into a brown shoe product mix.

Currently, Red Fox Footwear customers can expect to shop a carefully selected and well balanced array of brands including New Balance, Merrell, Patagonia, Adidas Outdoor, On Running, Altra, Timberland, Sperry, and a yet undetermined running line. The tagline they have used to describe their product mix is “Fitness – Outdoor – Work – Weekend,” which broadly encapsulates Red Fox’s products’ intended uses.

One of the unique benefits of shopping Red Fox Footwear is that they offer their fitting services to their customers for free.  

Anderson and Brown both have a wealth of valuable information on the mechanics of different shoes and how to find the correct model for a customer’s physiology and planned usage. 

In addition to its shoe inventoryl, Red Fox will also stock a selection of fitness and outdoor apparel, including Adidas and Merrell clothing, Smartwool & Wigwam Socks, and assorted and related fitness and shoe accessories.In celebration of their grand opening, a promotional event involving free socks with shoe purchases is being planned for the weekend of May 23-25.
