Crews Working to Clear 5 Inches of Snow Dumped on Fenton Streets

City of Fenton workers started got an early start in trying to clear the roads.

Crews have been attempting to clean up snow since 2 a.m., according to Fenton Department of Public Works Director Daniel Czarnecki.

"They will continue plowing until everything is cleaned up. Depending on how hard it keeps snowing, or what time the snowfall stops, will dictate how long the DPW crew will stay on the job," he said. "I am expecting them to go until 6 to 8 p.m. tonight based on what I see at the moment."

Czarnecki said most of the major roads were clear by 7 a.m. and crews began plowing local streets at the same time as giving major streets a second run. The crews will return on Saturday morning to touch up streets.

"If people don’t really need to go anywhere, they should stay home and enjoy the morning from the cozy comfort of home, and let all the snow plow people do their jobs without disruption," he said. "If people do need to drive, then drive slowly and carefully, and give snow plow operators lots of space to do their jobs."

Czarnecki also reminded residents it is against state law to plow snow into and/or across a street.

The Genesee County Road Commission had crews out starting at 1 a.m. and expect to be finished by noon, according to the Flint Journal.

Fenton and Lake Fenton schools announced school closings, because of weather and poor road conditions. Fenton Area Public Schools posted that a decision on evening events will be decided later today.

Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation posted that all programs and activities for Friday have been canceled and they will send make-up information home at your next class

No major vehicle accidents have been reported by police.

The National Weather Service is reporting around five inches of snow fell in the area overnight and throughout the morning.

Snow is expected to come to an end by noon today, but there will be winds from 18 to 23 mph with gusts of 29 with a high of 27 degrees. Tonight, skies will remain cloudy with a low around 2, according to the National Weather Service.
