Fenton Man Heads Back to Freed Libya

Mustafa Gheriana will remain in his homeland until late November.

With Moammar Gadhafi dead and Libya freed, couldn't wait to get back to his homeland.

"(I) cannot find an adequate way to express how happy I am for this long-awaited moment," Gheriani told The Detroit News Thursday in an email as he traveled back to Libya from Tunis, Tunisia.

The Tri-County Times reported Gheriani will focus on rebuilding his contracting business that was destroyed when the conflict began. The couple will stay in Libya until late November.

In June, Fenton Patch reported Gheriania was acting as a spokesman for a revolution to free his countrymen from the Gadhafi regime. His family in Libya is very involved in the revolution, he said. Gheriani became a spokesman for the revolution against Gadhafi.

"Things were quite dynamic, changing every hour, every day," Gheriani told Fenton Patch in June.

Gheriani, who was born in Benghazi, Libya, returned home to Fenton for his son Nabil Gheriani's graduation from in June. Even then, he sensed the Gadhafi reign was near the end.

The opportunity for him to assist was unexpected, although he said it always been a dream to topple the Gadhafi regime. "Events were going so fast," he said

"The Libyan people did it," Gheriani told Fenton Patch in June about how he thought a freed Libya was imminent. "The Libyan people have created history."
