Growing Fenton Film Series to Continue in 2013

Movie buffs can rejoice, the Fenton Films Series isn’t going anywhere.

The Fenton Downtown Development Authority (DDA) voted to renew its sponsorship of the program at a cost of $2,400 at Tuesday’s meeting.

The Fenton Film Series continues with its mission of showing free, high quality movies every month in downtown Fenton in the auditorium of the Fenton Community and Cultural Center.

Organizer John Strayer said attendance grew in 2012. The group had 110 people attend the White Christmas sing-along on Dec. 12.

“To have the whole ballroom signing with White Christmas was really inspiring,” Strayer said. “It’s a great community event.”

Movies are shown the second Wednesday of each month starting at 7 p.m. at the Fenton Community & Cultural Center. Free refreshments are also available, including sandwiches from Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, pastries and coffee from the Laundry, homemade sodas from the Fenton Winery & Brewery and appetizers from Bangkok Peppers.

“I think the community understands and appreciates what they get,” said city council member Ben Smith. “It’s great. Everyone should be taking a Wednesday out and supporting the city.”
