Lake Fenton Enjoys Success at Genesee County Spelling Bee Finals

How does Lake Fenton spell success?

With several county-level spelling bee champions, of course.

On March 21 and 22, eight students competed in the first round of the Genesee County Spelling Bee alongside students from 14 other county schools.

Four of those stu­dents, freshman Nick Mitchell, sophomore Wayne Ferris, junior Mike Joss and senior Evan Korchnak placed in one of the top two spots for their grades and qualified for the final round.

Korchnak placed first in the county, a second first-place victory for the graduating senior. Korchnak made the trip to Washington D.C. for the Scripps Howard National Bee when he was in sixth grade. The Scripps Howard bee is open to fifth through eighth-graders.

Mitchell placed sec­ond in the county pav­ing the way for hopeful future victories.

All of the students received a combi­nation of medals, certificates, gifts and plaques to honor their achievements.
