"They are a good football team, but I have to give it to my team. They came out and established that this was going to be a physical football game," Lake Fenton coach Eric Doyle said. "We were up for the challenge."

Lake Fenton cornerback Matt Hommer had as much to do with the first two scores as the offense.

After a 36-yard touchdown run from Robby Kesler, Hommer picked off a Bucs pass, and then Bryce Frownfelter sprinted for a 94-yard score.

Just a few plays later, Hommer came up with a fumble recovery, and Kesler later punched in a four-yard touchdown for a 20-0 lead.

"It felt like the best possible way we could start," Hommer said. "It boosted our mentality."

The quick start was crucial as Lake Fenton struggled with pass defense all night giving up 47, 10 and 30-yard touchdown passes and several other big plays to Beecher quarterback Antuan Burks.

"They are so talented and so fast that they can hit you like that," Doyle said. "We had a couple of blown assignments too."

The Blue Devils added 12-yard and four-yard touchdown runs and two-point conversion from Neil Allor. Rance Hennessey kicked three extra points.

Lake Fenton compiled 432 yards on the ground, with Kesler picking up 173 of those on 26 carries. Frownfelter had 171 yards on 21 carries.

Lake Fenton is entering the with a road game at Goodrich next week and then matchups with North Branch and Montrose on the slate.

"We have some big games coming up and we are going to have to improve," Doyle said.
