"They are a big, physical team, but they don't have a lot of depth," Lake Fenton coach Eric Doyle said of Mount Morris. "We wanted to push the tempo and run them out of gas. We wanted to run them sideline to sideline. We have some guys with some speed."

One of those guys is Robby Kesler, who scored two touchdowns and had two interceptions.

"I'd rather run outside," said Kesler. "Much better."

The Blue Devils even got the passing game going at one point.

In the second half, the Blue Devils faced a fourth and five at the Panthers 31-yard line when Lucas Hasenfratz floated a touchdown pass to Kesler for a 13-0 lead with 8:35 left in the third quarter.

"I wasn't sure if I could get there," Kesler said. "I just kept running and trusted my quarterback."

There were limited scoring chances in the first half for both teams.

Mount Morris had a long kickoff return to start the game called back on a holding penalty and Lake Fenton's Rance Hennessey missed a 43-yard field goal in the second quarter.

However, Lake Fenton's Zac Zielinski broke the deadlock on a four-yard run to the outside with 2:17 left in half and Hennessey added the extra point.

The game opened up in the second half a bit with Lake Fenton's long pass and the speed game continued as Kesler attacked the corner and scored on a four-yard TD to start fourth quarter and also added the two-point conversion for a 21-0 Blue Devil lead.

While the offense was clicking on speed and finesse, the defense stayed physical, but did struggle with the passing game at times.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard with a 69-yard TD reception by Isaiah Collins with 10:32 remaining in the game. Another big Collins reception put Mount Morris in position to score again late in the fourth quarter, but Kesler picked off a pass with five minutes left and Bryce Frownfelter punched in one-yard TD to make the final score 28-7.

The Blue Devils are now 1-1. They lost the season opener to .
