Lake Fenton Trying to Start Win Streak in Game Against Lakeville

The Falcons shut out the Blue Devils 27-0 last season.

Last year, Lake Fenton's varsity football squad started the season 0-3, capped by a 27-0 thumping by Lakeville, a program that had its first winning season in 10 years.

Lake Fenton could never really get on a roll after that. The Blue Devils are hoping the contest between the two this year can spring them to a winning streak of their own.

After last , the Blue Devils (1-1) will be in good shape if they can grab a home win over the Falcons on Friday. The next two games on the schedule are next week at Durand (0-2) and then home the following week against Beecher (1-1).

Lakeville is 0-2 on the season but has faced two tough opponents in losing 39-6 to Marlette and 42-22 to Frankenmuth. The Falcons rely on their physical running game under first-year head coach and former Lake Fenton basketball coach Joe Beckwith. Lakeville, like Mt. Morris, is a physical team, but it doesn’t have a lot of depth. This could play into the Blue Devils' favor, as the squad seemed to wear down the Panthers a week ago.

"We are going to have a carbon copy of this past Friday night to be successful," said Lake Fenton coach Eric Doyle. "We’ll need to rely on our speed, but we are going to have to pound the ball a little bit as well."

Lake Fenton’s Robby Kesler has had a major impact on the Blue Devils' first two games, as he has compiled four touchdowns and two interceptions. Another key will be Lake Fenton's defense. The Blue Devils have given up some big plays but have generally held tough, allowing 26 points so far this year. The Blue Devils had given up 59 points through the first two games last season.

"We need to continue to improve on defense as we have been doing this year," Doyle said.

Friday's game begins at 7 p.m. at .
