Lake Fenton's Top 10 Students

Alexander Brown and Linda Marchlewski share valedictorian honors.

We introduced you to all of Lake Fenton's top 10 students during the past two weeks, but if you missed any, here is the list again. To read some more personal comments from the students, click their names.

Alexander Brown, son of Sonya and Tony Brown of Linden, is co-valedictorian of the Class of 2011 with a 4.0 grade-point average. Alexander has been active in Drama Club, earning the Leave Your Mark Award in 2011; has served as co-captain of the Debate Club for four years; and participated in concert band for four years, earning a trumpet pin and a varsity letter. He has participated in marching band for five years, acting as drum major for the last two. He also serves as a mentor to the Chess Club and has been a student representative on the Lake Fenton Board of Education for the past two years. Serving on the Student Council for the past three years, Alex currently holds the office of secretary. He also has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years. Alexander is the recipient of a $2,200 debate scholarship, which he plans to use toward earning a doctoral degree in forensic psychology with the intent of working for the federal government.

Linda Marchlewski, daughter of Gail and Joseph Marchlewski of Fenton, is co-valedictorian of the Class of 2011 with a 4.0 grade-point average. Linda has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years, most recently serving as president. She has participated in cross-country for three years, earning the MVP award and 1st Team-All League in her junior year and serving as captain in her senior year. Linda was voted MIP in basketball in her senior year. Playing soccer for all four years, she was voted MVP in her junior year and served as captain in her junior and senior years. Linda plans to attend the University of Michigan to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering.

Kyle Frank, son of Amy Frank of Fenton and Greg and Rebecca Frank of Saginaw, is salutatorian of the Class of 2011 with a 3.906 grade-point average. Kyle has been active in varsity football for three years, earning 1st and 2nd Team All-League and Athlete of the Week. He’s played hockey for four years, earning the Grinder Award and Athlete of the Week. In addition, Kyle has participated on the track team for four years, earning a position as a state qualifier and 1st Team-All League. Outside of athletics, Kyle has been active in the National Honor Society for two years, during which he has served as vice-president; has served on the Youth Advisory Committee for two years; and has been a member of Young Life for the past two years. Kyle has received a scholarship through the Covenant HealthCare Foundation. He plans to study pre-medicine at the University of Michigan to pursue a career in the medical field.

Connor Brancheau, son of Stacey and Garret Brancheau of Fenton, is third in the Class of 2011 with a 3.900 grade-point average. Connor has wrestled for three years, earning many awards, most recently gaining recognition as a 2011 individual state champion in the 160-pound weight class. In addition to the state title, Connor served as captain of the Lake Fenton State Runner-Up Team in 2011, earned MVP in his senior year and was awarded Academic All-State in 2009 and 2010. He has also been active on the Silver Lake Ski Club for the past seven years, earning Skier of the Year in 2010. Connor plans to wrestle for the University of Michigan while earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing, later specializing to become a nurse anesthetist (CRNA).

Clifford Everhart, son of Debbie and Gene Everhart of Swartz Creek, is fourth in the Class of 2011 with a 3.824 grade-point average. Clifford has been active in marching band and symphonic band for all four years. He has also been a member of the digital recording program for the past year. He plans to attend Mott Community College for two years, then transfer to Spring Arbor University to obtain a degree in youth ministry.

, son of Claudia and Greg Korchnak, is fifth in the Class of 2011 with a 3.807 grade-point average. Evan has been a member of Quiz Bowl for four years, serving as captain. He’s also participated in band for all four years and has served as section leader, drum major and first chair. Evan also has played with the Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra for the past two years. In addition, Evan has been involved in Drama Club during his senior year, has served as secretary for the National Honor Society and is a member of the Anchor yearbook staff. He also has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. In March, he placed first in the county in the Grades 9-12 category in the Genesee County Regional Spelling Bee. A recipient of the National Merit Scholarship, Evan has been accepted into the University of Oklahoma Medical School to study biochemistry in preparation for obtaining his medical degree.

, daughter of Genevieve and Theodore Nelson of Fenton, is sixth in the Class of 2011 with a 3.771 grade-point average. Caitlin has been active in Student Council for all four years, currently serving as class president. She’s also been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years. She’s been a member of the Anchor yearbook staff as co-editor in her junior year and editor-in-chief in her senior year. Caitlin serves as the Lake Fenton Class of 2011 president for the Genesee Area Conference Student Council. Her athletic involvement includes playing volleyball all four years, serving as volleyball captain in her junior year, and was active in softball during her freshman year. Caitlin plans to attend Hillsdale College to earn a degree in finance.

, daughter of Cathy and Scott Smith of Fenton, is seventh in the
Class of 2011 with a 3.760 grade-point average. Sarah has been involved in the marching, symphonic and pep bands for four years, serving as section leader for two years in each band. In addition, she was a member of the jazz band for one year. Her musical involvement also includes the Flint Youth Symphony and the Flint Youth Ensemble for two years and the Hentgen Honors Woodwind Quartet. She has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years. Sarah plans to attend Oakland University in a pre-dentistry program.

, son of Denise and Robert Stites of Fenton, is eighth in the Class of 2011 with a 3.755 grade-point average. Devyn has participated in marching band for three years, including as a section leader for two of those years, and played in the pep band for two years. Devyn has also been involved in Drama Club for three years. He earned his green stripe belt in karate while participating during the past two years. Devyn is the recipient of a scholarship from Pensacola (FL) Christian College, where he plans to attend in the fall.

, daughter of Laurie and Mark Newman of Swartz Creek, is ninth in the Class of 2011 with a 3.748 grade-point average. Alicia has been active in athletics, playing varsity softball for all four years. She earned All-Region in her sophomore and junior years, 1st Team-GAC in her freshman, sophomore and junior years, MVP in her junior year and was a Player of the Year candidate in her junior year. Alicia also played basketball in her freshman year. She has been active in Big Brothers Big Sisters this year and has participated in Relay for Life for the past three years. Alicia has received a full-tuition softball scholarship, while she intends to work toward a degree in nursing.

, daughter of Maria and Franklin Cox of Swartz Creek, is 10th in the Class of 2011 with a 3.744 grade-point average. Sarah earned MIP and MVP in varsity sideline cheerleading from 2008-2010 and was on the varsity competitive cheer team for four years, where she was captain during her senior year. She coached Lake Fenton Youth Cheer for four years. Sarah has also danced for 13 years and participated in Drama Club and choir for two years. She is currently a member of the Anchor yearbook staff and has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2009. Sarah received the Alma College Presidential Scholarship and the Alma Opportunity Award. She plans to attend Alma College to study pre-dentistry.
